A testimony of the Lord’s faithfulness in my fight with cancer
Below is a brief testimony of the Lord’s faithfulness in my fight with cancer. During my treatment I recorded several brief updates on Facebook which include lessons the Lord has been teaching me during this time and I thought it would be helpful to put them in one place (I’ve included links at the bottom if you would prefer to start there).
Despite feeling normal and in good health, in July 2026 I was referred to a suspected cancer clinic after an ultrasound investigation of a swollen gland on my neck. Less than a month later it was confirmed that I tested positive for stage 1 viral cancer in my neck/throat. Weeks later I had a transoral robotic surgery to obtain tissue samples from deep within my mouth and throat which was successful in locating the primary source at my left tonsil and the base of my tongue (which was removed). As a result I started treatment including 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 2 cycles of chemotherapy (Cisplatin) starting mid-October.
The treatment I’ve received was with the goal of cure meaning that it has a high success rate in curing the type of cancer that I had. I’ll receive close surveillance for five years to make sure there is no recurrence.
Jesus carried me through this time and I’ve learned with Paul that “the Lord’s grace is sufficient for me, for His power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9). I’m confident that the prayers offered on my behalf have not only served to heal my body but also helped me hold fast to the Lord through this time. I’m extremely grateful—thank you!
Below are links to several brief updates on Facebook which include lessons the Lord has been teaching me as I walked through this season.
Post 1: Fear not, for I have redeemed you (Isaiah 43:1-3)
Post 2: My fight to eradicate cancer and God’s rescue in Christ (Galatians 1:3)
Post 3: Rejoice in the Lord at all times (Philippians 4:4-7)
Post 4: Christ my life (Isaiah 41:10-16)
Post 5: The Good Shepherd who meets us in the valley (Psalm 23:4)
I’ve also included several sermons that speak to the Lord’s faithfulness in times of trouble.
God will be with us in trouble (Isaiah 43:1-3) This was the last sermon I shared after recovering from transoral robotic surgery (detailed above) and before starting treatment.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
